The Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Professor Ibrahim Garba, has confirmed that one ‘Daniel Jonah Melaye’ graduated from the school with Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography in 2000
Garba made this confirmation while testifying before the Senate Committee on Ethics on Monday.
While the name he gave, ‘Daniel Jonah Melaye’ was slightly different from ‘Dino Melaye’, his testimony may have put to rest the controversy surrounding the academic qualifications of the lawmaker from Kogi West.
The Senate had last week decided to probe Melaye after Senator Ali Ndume drew the attention of the plenary to media reports that he didn’t graduate from the university.
Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over the meeting, had asked the committee to look into the matter and report back to the plenary in four weeks.
Melaye, who heads the committee on FCT, has been in the forefront of the seeming recent battle between the Upper Chamber and the Executive.
He had insisted that he did nothing wrong, saying the controversy surrounding his certificate may have been the handiwork of people who were not comfortable with his stand on recent issues.
