The inability of a young lady to breast-feed a crying 2-month old baby she was carrying has exposed her to travelers along Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
Yetunde Awosanya, popularly called T-girl, had over the weekend allegedly stolen the child from his mother who owns a kiosk in Badagry, Lagos.
T-girl attempted to smuggle the boy known as Kudus into Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, for unknown reasons.
The suspected abductor had taken Kudus from his mother, Mrs. Alimat Adebowale, who sells biscuits in the market, under the guise of playing with him.
She reportedly strapped Kudus to her back and suddenly left the scene while his mother was busy attending to other customers.
To confirm their suspension, Kudus’ mother and the market crowd that gathered called T-girl’s number repeatedly but she didn’t pick.
According to eye witnesses, the case was reported at the Badagry Police Station but she was arrested in Ibadan.
“It was said the bus had a minor accident on the way to Ibadan and the driver had to wait for some moments. As they were waiting, Kudus started crying and the passengers urged her to breastfeed him. She refused.
“As the baby’s cries increased, they compelled her to breastfeed him and she reluctantly agreed. But the baby did not suck her breasts, which made the passengers to be suspicious. After threatening to beat her up, she said she was taking the baby to her mother in Ibadan.”
The passengers took her to the Yemetu Police Station in Ibadan.
“The police in Ibadan contacted the Badagry division and the mother and her husband travelled there to recover their child. He is two months old,” an eye witness narrated.
According to the police in Ibadan, the suspect claimed to be Kudus’ mother’s friend and that she took the boy away with her consent.
“She said she travelled with the baby with the consent of his mother. But after interrogation, it turned out that she was lying. The case will be transferred to Lagos,” the police source said.
The Police spokesman, Lagos State Command, SP Dolapo Badmos, who confirmed the recovery of the child, said the suspect would be transferred to the command for further investigations.
