Sugar wax hair removal is widely used in the Northern part of Nigeria, especially in Maiduguri, Borno state. It is called “Halawa” in Shuwa and Kanuri languages. It is a routine beauty tip used mostly for brides before they wedding.
You will never shave or wax again with cream after trying this natural sugar paste. So simple and it works. Apart from being a better hair removal method, sugar waxing is also much gentler on your skin than regular waxing. It also lasts much longer than shaving.
Ingredients:
1 cup of white or brown sugar
2 tablespoon of water
1.5 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar
1 tablespoon of salt (optional)
How To Prepare:
- Start your sugar paste by mixing the ingredients: 1.5 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice, 1 cup of sugar, 2 tablespoon of water and 1 tablespoon salt.
- Boil the mixture in gas cooker or stove or using other cooking methods.
- Turnoff the heat when the mixture begins to turn to golden colour.
- Put the mixture in a bowl and allow it to cool for like 30 to 40 minutes. If it is thick, then you have a perfect paste, if it not thick you need to reboil the mixture.
- Dry the skin and apply the sugar paste. Make sure you apply it in the opposite direction of the hair growth.
- Then just pull the paste off your skin, and you’re done!
This process is a bit painful considering the sensitivity of the skin.
