Borno state indigenes have stormed the main gate of the National Assembly to protest against the suspension of the immediate past Senate Majority Leader, Muhammed Ali Ndume.
Made up of of mainly Internally Displaced Persons and the state indigenes resident in Abuja, the protesters criticised the leadership of the Senate for denying Borno South senatorial district its representative as part of the internal politics in the Upper Chamber.
Ndume was last week suspended for six months for allegedly bringing the Senate into disrepute by calling for the investigation of Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, and Senator Dino Melaye over the car purchase and certificate scandals respectively.
The protesters said Ndume’s suspension was unfair, calling for the ‘injustice’ to be immediately reversed.
Saraki had told State House correspondents on Monday that he lacked the power to single-handedly reverse Ndume’s suspension.
