Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Sunday created a scene at the Nelson Mandela Hall of the African Union (AU) headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, when he rushed to greet President Muhamadu Buhari.
Obasanjo had last week stirred up controversies when he released a 13-page statement accusing Buhari of running a government of nepotism.
He also warned the President against presenting himself for a second term as, according to him, the President lacks understanding of the economy and foreign affairs.
Obasanjo also expressed concern that the President is exhibiting poor understanding of internal politics and dynamics and engages in passing buck instead of facing the challenges of governance.
The two leaders are in Addis Ababa for the 30th Ordinary Session of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.
The President had settled down for the launch of a new AU logo and presentation of his paper titled “Winning the Fight Against Corruption: A Sustainable Path to Africa’s Transformation” when Obasanjo approached him.
They exchanged pleasantries and spoke briefly in low tunes shortly before the commencement of the opening session of the summit.
As the two leaders chatted briefly, former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar, who is also a delegate at the summit, joined them for a group photograph.
The venue of the summit became noisy as delegates familiar with Obasanjo’s recent letter advising the President not to seek re-election in 2019 talked in low tunes.
