Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has bagged a Master’s Degree in Theology at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Vincent Tenebe, said in Abuja.
Speaking at the fifth convocation of ceremony of the university, Tenebe said 10,653 have bagged different degrees out of 15 made first class honours.
“Having been given the admission to study MA/PhD in Christian Theology, Obasanjo will continue with his Ph.D fully. This is very unique considering his age and commitments; he also made a very good cumulative grade point,’’ he said.
He said some of the outstanding graduates are the Emir of Hadejia, Alhaji Adamu Abubakar; traditional ruler of Awgu, Igwe Felix Okechukwu. 70-year-old Rear Admiral Orisha (rtd), 78-year-old Chief Femi Balogun.
The vice-chancellor said a blind student, Mr Obinna Bede, bagged a Bachelor of Arts (English) degree while Udo Effiong had the highest cumulative point in first class grade of 4.71.
Tenebe said NOUN had achieved its primary mandate of having study centres in all the state capitals across the country, adding that the institution would commence the last aspect of its mandate, which is to establish study centres in all the 774 local governments in the next 15 years.
He said university currently has 72 study alongside four new research centres.
