The federal government said it has ordered prove into allegation of toxic waste disposal at the Koko community of Delta state about 30 years after a similar incident.
Minister of Environment, Ms Amina Mohammed, who disclosed this to State House correspondents on Wednesday after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja, said a team of investigators has already been dispatched to the area.
She said team was deployed on Tuesday to ensure that no more waste is dumped in the community and to find out those behind the incident and submit the report for further action.
“On the crisis that happened in Delta State, we have sent a team right there yesterday (Tuesday). The team is securing the site to ensure no more waste is dumped there.
“The second thing is to find out who has contributed to that so that it can be contained.
“We need to look at how that happened in the first place and then how toxic waste in that area got into water. The regulatory agencies are there as we speak and we are expecting a report,” she said.
