The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has conferred a Grand Diamond Excellence Award and Diamond Excellence Award on wife of the president Hajiya Aisha Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe state, respectively.
Speaking at the conferment of the award at the Conference Centre of Presidential Villa in Abuja, Director-General of NAFDAC Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, said the awards were conferred on the recipients for their contributions to the agency and the fight against counterfeit and sub-standard foods, drugs, cosmetics and chemicals in the country.
She said for the past 25 years, NAFDAC has been waging and sustaining the fight against illicit and fake drugs, stressing that the services render by the agency are at the heart of the country’s future as they are geared towards protecting the future generation from the harmful effects of illicit and counterfeit foods, drugs and other consumables within the purview of the agency’s mandate.
In her remarks, the recipient of the Grand Diamond Award, Hajiya Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, praised the agency for its pioneering and commendable job, and pledged federal government’s continued support in the fight against fake and counterfeit drugs.
Also speaking, Governor Ibrahim Gaidam, who was recognised by NAFDAC for the support that his administration has been providing to the agency in its work in Yobe state, commended the agency for helping to save the lives of many young men and women who would have fallen prey to the negative effects of fake and substandard foods and drugs.
NAFDAC also honoured Governor Gaidam by making him present awards to other recipients in the ‘Legacy’ category.
