A teacher, Mrs Precious Anthony, has asked a Customary Court sitting in Jikoyi, Abuja to dissolve her marriage.
Mrs Anthony, who resides in Karu Village, told the court on Thursday that her husband planned to stab her to death.
She accused her husband of always getting drunk and threatening her life.
“My husband almost stabbed me to death after he has consumed excess alcohol.
“This has been his usual behaviour, anytime he comes back drunk, he never lets me be.
“He sometimes beats me up for doing nothing.”
She said her husband recently threw her out of the house with their only daughter.
“When my husband drove me and my daughter out, I did not know who to run to, so I had to go back to my parents’ house in Jos,” she told the court.
The petitioner also said that her husband did not come to see them in Jos until after six months.
According to her, even when he managed to come and see us, he came drunk.
“He even beat me up in my parents’ house and threatened to kill my brother who came to defend me while he was beating me up,” she said.
She begged the court to dissolve the marriage and grant her custody of the only child of the marriage.
Her embattled husband, Monday Mipan, denied the allegations.
He however told the court to dissolve the marriage if his wife wanted it that way.
He begged the court not to grant custody of the only child of the marriage to his wife.
Efforts by the presiding judge, Labaran Gusau, to ensure the couple settle amicably out of court proved abortive as they insisted they no longer loved each other.
The judge therefore dissolved the marriage and told the petitioner and respondent to go their separate ways.
