Minister of Information and Culture, Alh Lai Mohmmed has said President Muhammadu Buhari will not send a congratulatory message to Bayelsa state governor, Seriake Dickson over his re-election.
Dickson defeated All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Timipre Sylva after a supplementary poll was conducted last week.
It has been a tradition in recent years for the President to congratulate winners of gubernatorial elections irrespective of party affiliation.
Addressing journalists in Abuja on Monday,
Mohammed said Buhari would not follow the step of his predecessor who was fond of sending congratulatory messages to winners of elections irrespective of party affiliation.
“This President is not in the business of interfering and intervening in elections,” he said.
“What if he sent a congratulatory message and they go to court and the election is overturned, will he call back the congratulatory message?
“This President believes that the Presidency should be insulated from the conduct of elections and their outcomes,” the minister said.
