Kogi State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Lokoja on Monday dismissed two motions seeking interlocutory injunction to stop the inauguration of Alhaji Yahaya Bello as the governor of the state.
The two motions on notice seeking an order of the tribunal were earlier filed by the counsels to Governor Idris Wada of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Chris Uche (SAN) and that of the Labour Party, Reuben Egwuaba.
Justice Halima S .Mohammed in her ruling dismissed the motions, saying that though the tribunal has jurisdiction to entertain the matter, but the motions were not contained in the original petitions but came via motion on notice.
She also held that if the tribunal grants the order being sought by the two parties, it would affect the life of the original case before the court.
With the latest judicial pronouncement, the coast is now clear for Bello to be sworn-in on Wednesday as the first democratically elected governor from outside the eastern part of the state.
