The Senate has blocked a move to invite the Director General of the Department of State Services, Lawan Daura, over the arrest of judges.
DSS operatives had on Friday swooped on some judges of the Supreme, Appeal and High Courts and detained them over allegations of corruption.
They have since been released on self recognition.
In a motion brought as matter of urgent national importance by Joshua Lidani (PDP-Gombe), the Senate was asked to look into the action of the DSS.
Lidani urged the Senate to invite Daura to explain why his agency carried out the action which he said was out of its constitutional duty.
When Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, called for vote to uphold Lidani’s prayer, Senators yelled “ayes” and later “nay” in somewhat equal proportion.
Then, Mr. Saraki put the question again resulting in similar response as the first.
He then ruled “the nays have it”, translating to defeat of the proposal to invite Daura.
Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, had however supported the prayer that Daura be invited.
Other Senators who condemned the DSS action were indifferent to the proposal to invite Daura.
