The State of Qatar participated via videoconferencing in the 120th session of the Permanent Council of the Francophonie, which was held in the French capital, Paris, under the chairpersonship of HE Secretary-General of the International Organization of La Francophonie Louise Mushikiwabo.
The State of Qatar was represented at the session by HE Ambassador of Qatar to the French Republic and Qatar’s representative to the International Organization of La Francophonie Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al-Thani.
The meeting discussed the political situation of some Francophone countries.
HE Secretary-General expressed her concern about the situation in the world today, adding that peace and security are subject to turmoil. She reviewed the developments in the political and security situation in several countries, including Burkina Faso, Mali, Lebanon, Tunisia, Haiti, and the transitional process in Chad in particular.
Her Excellency praised the mediation led by the State of Qatar in the framework of the preparatory dialogue between the Chadian government and the opposition political and armed groups, commending the efforts of the State of Qatar and expressing her sincere thanks for that.
She expressed hope that the negotiations in Doha would achieve their goals by reaching an agreement and called on all concerned parties to do everything necessary to reach an agreement that would allow the restoration of constitutional order, reconciliation, and lasting peace.
Her Excellency pointed out that the Organization will continue its efforts to keep pace with the transition process, through the two experts it appointed, to support the Chadian government in the transitional phase since August 2021, and who are closely following the Doha negotiations.
