The Police Council Tuesday confirmed the Mr Kayode Egbetokun as the substantive Inspector General of Police (IGP).
The IGP was confirmed at the meeting of the Police Council chaired by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Addressing State House correspondents, Minister of Police Affairs Mr Ibrahim Geidam said members of the Police Council endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s proposal on the confirmation of Egbetokun following his pedigree and experiences on the job.
He said in the last three months, Egbetokun discharged duties satisfactorily.
He said the IGP also presented impressive records to the Police Council that revealed his numerous police and security developmental programmes that positioned him as highly qualified.
The President had on Monday, June 19, 2023, appointed Egbetokun as acting IGP. His appointment was confirmed by the Senate in line with the provisions of the law.
IGP Kayode Egbetokun, from Ogun state, was born on September 4, 1964, and was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet ASP (Course 16) on March 3, 1990.
He obtained a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Master’s degree in Engineering Analysis and Business Administration from the University of Lagos. He also has a PhD in Peace and Security Studies from Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Kwara state.
He attended the Global Conference on Chemical Security and Emerging Threats held in Lyon France in 2018 and was trained in several professional courses.
