Ijeoma Ojukwu, a niece of late Ikemba Odumegwu Ojukwu was among 4 suspects picked by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Tuesday for allegedly importing of 2.24 kilogrammes of cocaine from Brazil.
A staff of the agency, Ali Bala Adamu was also among the suspects arrested in connection with the alleged crime.
In a statement in Lagos, the spokesman for NDLEA, Ofoyeju Mitchell said the arrest came after an abandoned luggage from Brazil was found to contain 2.24 kilogrammes of cocaine at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos which subsequently led to the arrest of the five suspects.
Those arrested and interrogated include Ali Bala Adamu, a staff of the NDLEA, Ijeoma Ojukwu,Victor Umeh, Uche Igwelo and Egbuche Fidelis Osiita.
Speaking on the arrest, Chairman of the NDLEA, Mrs. Roli Bode-George said that the agency would prosecute whoever was found guilty.
“The NDLEA is following every lead professionally and will exploit more opportunities towards getting every culprit arrested. We have also expanded the scope of our investigation and everyone involved in this illegal importation of narcotics shall be diligently prosecuted.
The Agency will continue to uphold the rule of law and dislodge drug trafficking organisations in the country” Mrs. Roli stated.
The NDLEA boss added that there would be no form of favoritism for the agency’s staff member who was also arrested in connection with the alleged crime.
