Nigeria’s Super Eagles defeated Desert Warriors of Algeria 3-1 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state on Saturday.
Goals by Chelsea duo of Victor Moses and John Mikel Obi ensured the Eagles took a big step towards qualifiying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The Super Eagles had defeated the Chipolopolo Zambia 2-1 in their first game of the series while the Zambians held Cameroon to a 1-1 draw on Saturday. This mens Super Eagles now top the group with 6 points.
Victor Moses opened scoring in the first half, after the ball broke kindly to him inside the box. His Chelsea team-mate, John Mikel Obi, made it 2-0 before the break.
The Eagles captain had time and space inside the box after beating the offside trap, to coolly slot past the keeper.
Nabil Bentaleb pulled one back for the Desert Warriors with a screaming strike that left Daniel Akpeyi stranded, before Moses finished off a quick counter-attack late in the game.
Nigeria now top the group with six points. Cameroon have two, while Zambia and Algeria have one each.
The Super Eagles will play the Indomitable Lions of Camerooun in the next round of fixtures.
