Wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, has criticised her husband, President Muhammadu Buhari’s performance and choice of appointees.
In a surprise interview with BBC Hausa Service, part of which was aired on Tuesday, Mrs Buhari expressed frustration that the President has betrayed both the politicians who worked hard for his victory and the 15 million Nigerians who voted for him at the last general elections.
According to her, the President now favours those who dont even have voters’ cards.
She said her biggest fear was the ‘rebellion’ of those 15 million people ahead of 2019.
She also accused the President of appointing the people he doesnt know, adding that out of 50, the President doesnt know 45 of the people around him.
The President’s wife added that despite being married to the President for 25 years, she doesnt know most of the people around his governnent now.
While she didnt name the unknown appointees, she also accused them of causing a division and problems with the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress.
It would be recalled that the National Leader of the party, Bola Tinubu, and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, had recently accused National Chairman, John Oyegun, who is believed to be on the same page with the President, of perpetrating injustice in the Ondo state primary election.
“This worries us a lot now. Because they believe they are the ones who suffered, but are no where today. Those who didn’t do anything who don’t even have voters’ card are the ones in position, doing everything.”
“What I am afraid for them is the rebellion of 15 million people,” she said.
She also insinuated that she was tired of advising him on how to run his government and will no longer do so.
Asked whether the President knew the troublemakers within his government and party, she said: “Whether he knows or he doesn’t know, those who voted for him know. There is nothing I will tell him. He can see. Among all the people he selected, if he is asked among 50 people, he doesn’t know 45. I don’t know them despite staying with him for 25 years.”
Mrs. Buhari who also revealed that her husband had not told her his plans for 2019, but she had made her own decisions.
“He has not told me but I have decided,” she said.
The BBC Hausa Service is President Buhari’s favourite news media outlet and he had repeatedly said in public gatherings that he doesnt miss its news and programmes.
The station promised to air the full interview at the weekend.
