Former Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho has written a six-page letter to Manchester United outlining his credentials and plans to restore the club’s glory days if appointed to succeed embattled Louis Van Gaal.
According to The Independent, Mourinho who was fired by Chelsea in December last year, has timed his application letter to coincide with a period of growing discontent of fans with Van Gaal’s boring style of play and poor results.
The timing of the letter is also few hours after Manchester United slumped to yet another defeat at home to Southampton on Saturday, so Mourinho’s representative Jorge Mendes contacted the United board to discuss the future..

According to the report, the Portuguese coach used the letter to pledge his commitment to adapting his style of management and how he would overhaul the squad.
Mourinho reportedly sought the United job for the first time when Sir Alex Ferguson was about to retire in 2013 but the latter chose the then Everton manager, David Moyes as his successor.
Immediately he was fired at Chelsea in December, Mourinho also indicated interest to take the Man United job with rumours flying round that he had been able to convince the United board that he was the right man to succeed his old mentor.
He had worked for the Dutch coach at Barcelona between 1997-2000.
Even with the rumours, some United addicts thought he didn’t fit into the club’s principles and philosophy and his combustible nature and poor relationship with colleagues and authorities as well as failure to nurture young talents will make him a misfit at the club.
According to The Independent, in the the letter, the 52-year old former Real Madrid manager explained his strong desire to manage the club and how he would be willing to adhere to United’s principles.
United have over the years played exciting, open and attacking football, and they have always set great store on developing their own young players.
The Independent claims that to show his seriousness and willingness to get the job, Mourinho also presented a forensic analysis of the current Manchester United team in the letter. He went through every area of the current squad, offering extensive thoughts on what could be improved as well as making suggestion about signings that could help strengthen the squad.
