Following the intervention of the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mr. James Ocholi the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) has extended the date for the planned industrial action by health workers.
The decision to extend the dateline for the planned industrial action was reached after a prolonged meeting with stakeholders.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of State for Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire; Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Amina Shamaki; Permanent Secretary, Service Policy and Strategy Office in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Nuratu Batagarawa; Chairman of National Salary Income and Wages Commission, Chief Richard Egbule and the executives of JOHESU led by its chairman, Comrade Biobelemoye Josiah.
In his remarks, Mr. Ocholi appealed to the leadership of JOHESU to give him 30 days to study the antecedents of the issues in demand in order to be able to proffer lasting solution to the protracted industrial unrest in the health sector.
After due considerations, the trade unions conceded 21 days extension for the commencement of the proposed industrial action which the Minister of State for Labour and Employment accepted.
