The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),mhas scheduled the Edo and Ondo states governorship election for Saturday, September 10, 2016 and Saturday, November 26, 2016, respectively.
The Commission also released the schedule of activities for two governorship elections in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
The timetable and schedule of activities for Edo state governorship election stipulate that Sunday, June 12, 2016 would be the commencement date for campaigns by political parties while the conduct of Party Primaries, including resolution of disputes arising from the primaries are expected to be dealt with between Thursday, June 2 to Monday, July 4, 2016.
The Commission said it would publish the official Register of Voters for the Edo governorship election on Thursday, August 11, 2016. On the same day, it will publish the list of nominated candidates by political parties.
The timetable and schedule of activities Edo state governorship election also indicate that Thursday, September 8, 2016 would be the last day for campaigns.
According to the commission, Sunday, August 28, 2016 has been scheduled for commencement of campaigns by political parties in the Ondo Governorship election while the conduct of party primaries including resolution of disputes arising from the primaries, would take place between Thursday, August 18 and Monday September 19, 2016.
The commission said publication of the official register of voters for the election would be done on Tuesday, October 27, 2016; publication of list of nominated candidates would be done on the same day while Thursday, November 24, 2016 has been fixed as the last day of campaigns by all political parties.
Run-off election to the office of the Governor (if any) will be held within seven days after the announcement of the result of the election in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), the commission said.
The commission has also scheduled the Ife Central State Constituency, Osun State re-run election for Saturday, April 9, 2016.
Ife Central State Constituency is made up of: one (1) Local Government; eleven (11) Registration Areas; one hundred and sixty eight (168) Polling Units; and one hundred and ninety seven (197) Voting Points. The State Constituency has a total of 95,239 registered voters.
