The lawmaker representing Lokoja I constituency, Hon Umar Ahmed Imam has emerged Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly.
The new Speaker who was sworn in on Tuesday was until his election the Minority Whip and the chairman House committee on Finance.
He replaced the immediate past speaker, Rt. Hon. Momoh Jimoh Lawal (PDP) who was impeached by his colleagues.
Lawal hails from the same senatorial district with the state governor, Alh Yahaya Bello and also the Chief Judge of the state high court, Justice Nasiru Ajana.
The emergence of the new Speaker came after Hon. Simeon Achuba from the eastern senatorial district emerged the deputy governor of the state.
In his acceptance speech, the new Speaker thanked his colleagues and the state governor for their support and promised to work with the executive to rescue the state from its present challenges.
