President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday met behind closed-doors with six state governors as part of measures to find a way out of the present economic challenges.
The governors were led to the meeting by chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara state.
Other governors in attendance were Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo, Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom, Rochas Okorocha of Imo, Aminu Masari of Katsina and Adams Oshiomole of Edo.
While the governors did not disclose the details of their meeting to journalists, a source close the meeting said the inability to pay salaries and meet their daily responsibilities dominated the discussion.
The President also held a meeting with some leaders from the southeast.
The leaders were led to the meeting by former Senate President, Ken Nnamani.
The meeting took place a day after some Biafra agitators were reportedly crushed by security agents in the south-south and southeast.
The 18-member delegation that arrived in a bus belonging to the Ken Nnamani Leadership Institute, came under the aegis of Southeast Group for Change and comprised mainly members of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
They included George Moghalu; former Senators Ifeanyi Ararume and Osita Izunaso; former House of Reps member, Sharon Ikeazor; former former Executive Vice-Charman of Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC), Ernest Ndukwe.
There was also APC National Vice-Chairman (South East), Hon. Emma Eneukwu; member of the APC Board of Trustees, Chief Austin Edeze; Dr. Uzoma Obiyo; and Chris Akomas, among others.
