President Muhammadu Buhari will not return to Nigeria until Sunday, five days after he was earlier scheduled to end his London vacation.
The President’s new date of arrival was announced by Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo to State House correspondents on Thursday.
President Buhari had left the country on Monday 6th of June for a 10-day vacation in London.
The Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Femi Adesina, had said in a statement that while in London, the President will see an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist for a persistent ear infection, as advised by both his Personal Physician and an E.N.T Specialist in Abuja.
The President was supposed to return to the country on Wednesday and resume work on Thursday. But according to Osinbajo, the President will return to Abuja on Sunday and resume work on Monday.
He however said the President was hale and hearty.
Speaking to State House correspondents outside the Council Chambers before the commencement of the monthly National Economic Council (NEC), the Vice President said he spoke to President Buhari on Wednesday evening and he was in good health but will need to take the weekend off.
“The President will be back on Sunday. I spoke with him yesterday evening and I think it is just the best that he takes the weekend off. He will certainly be back on Sunday.
“I think the most straightforward thing is when he will be back. He will be back on Sunday. There is no point rushing back on Friday or something like that.
“He will just take the weekend off and be back on Sunday.
“He is in perfect health and ready to resume work on Monday morning.
“Mr. President is in good condition, he is fine, he is very well. He should take a day or two off in London and rest a bit and come back hale and hearty on Sunday and be ready for work on Monday.
“So we expect him back on Sunday,” he said.
