Two members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the House of Representatives on Wednesday announced their defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The members are Rep. Tony Nwoye from Anambra and Rep. Udende Emmanuel from Benue. In separate letters by the members read by the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, on the floor of the House, they cited division in the PDP as the reason for their defection.
They said since the PDP had broken into three factions headed by Ali Modu Sheriff, Ahmed Makarfi and Jerry Gana, respectively, they did not wish to belong to any faction.
House Minority Leader, Leo Ogor (Delta-PDP), in a point of order argued however that no court of law had ruled that the party had split into factions.
The Speaker insisted there was no need to debate the matter on the floor, saying it should be left to the national body of the party.
