David Wagner has picked up the Premier League manager of the month award for August after Huddersfield’s dream start to life back in the top flight.

The newly promoted side picked up seven points in their first three fixtures to silence critics predicting a season of struggle and have yet to concede a goal.

Their campaign got off to the best possible start on the opening weekend with a resounding 3-0 victory at Crystal Palace, which was followed up by a 1-0 win at home to fellow new boys Newcastle United.

A 0-0 draw with Southampton ensured the Terriers went the first month of the season unbeaten and they currently sit third in the table behind only Manchester United and Liverpool.

Wagner beat Jose Mourinho, Jurgen Klopp, Pep Guardiola and Tony Pulis to the first award of the season.

The award means that Manchester United boss Mourinho misses out on the award once more, despite guiding his side to victory in all three of their opening fixtures.

Meanwhile, Wagner’s side are only the second newly-promoted team not to concede a goal in their first three Premier League matches.

Only five sides have done so in their opening four games of the season.

And ahead of their trip to face West Ham on Monday night, Wagner urged his team to continue their strong start.

Speaking on Thursday, the German boss said: I will let the players know that they can write history in the Premier League at Huddersfield Town.

‘We know how difficult it is to get one clean sheet in the Premier League and now we have three in a row.

‘You need a little bit of luck to have a clean sheet. If this is the case on Monday, hopefully, then we have at least a chance to get another result.’
