The Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Shehu Sani (APC Kaduna Central), has called on the All Progressives Congress, APC, to punish Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State for allegedly leaking a discreet letter he wrote to President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a memo dated September 2016 which was leaked recently, El Rufai had criticised President Buhari’s performance, blaming his actions and inactions, as well as the incompetence of most of his key aides, for the ailing economy and unhealthy division within the party.
Sani, a long-term critic of El Rufai, however wondered how the governor, who he said was intolerant of dissent, could criticise the President.
“The governor always recommends that our party should punish me for criticising him,” the lawmaker said.
“Now that he has fired a cruise missile at the President through a deliberately leaked memo, he should also be treated the same way.
“It’s often said that look at the message and not the messenger, but there are times when you can only decipher the message by looking at the messenger,” Sani said in a statememt on Saturday.
Warning the President to be wary of a ‘scorpion’ and ‘cobra’ like El Rufai, Sani said the letter was written in bad taste and leaked to the press by the governor in furtherance of his alleged ambition to succeed President Buhari.
