The books, “State of Repair: How Muhammadu Buhari Tried to Change Nigeria for Good,” written by a British journalist Mr Antony Goldman, and “The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari,” written by Senator Abu Ibrahim, focused on the eight years administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Chairman of BUA Group, Abdulsamad Rabiu led other launchers with a donation of N200 million followed by his counterpart in the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, who doled out N200 million to obtain copies of both books just as Muhammed Indimi also bought copies of the books for N100 million.
The President-elect, Bola Tinubu, who was represented by the Vice President-elect, Kashim Shettima, obtained copies for N50 million.
The books were reviewed by former Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi and Deputy Vice Chancellor, University of Abuja, Prof. Abubakar Abba.
The President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, who unveiled the books, said the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the entire Africa will miss President Buhari’s leadership qualities in stabilizing the region.
“As leaders, we all have our high and low moments, but I have no doubt that posterity will be kind to Muhammadu Buhari.
“President Buhari, we will miss you. West Africa, Africa, and indeed, the world will miss your leadership, the leadership of a military ruler, turned consummate democrat, who was extremely solicitous of Nigeria and Africa, interests and who sought for principles in all decisions which he took.
“I’m yet to have a book written about me, let alone author one myself. I have some 19 months to leave the office, and I guess I have to take cues from my seniors and hope the books will teach me,” he said.
Also speaking, President of the Senate Mr Ahmed Lawan commended the President for providing the platform for a mutual and cordial working relationship between the executive and legislative arms.
He said in the last four years, the President has signed 108 bills into law.
“We have worked with you and we have achieved so much in the last four years. Infact you have the very enviable record that you are the President in this 4th republic that signed or assented to 108 bills and the closest to you did 75 in eight years. But ours is just in the four years that we have worked with you,” he said.
On his part, the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was represented by the Vice President-elect, Mr Kashim Shettima, said President Buhari had since endeared himself to the hearts of Nigerians, through his leadership qualities.
“President Muhammadu Buhari embodies the admirable qualities of a stout leader in the tradition of Marcus Aurelius. He has relinquished the task of chronicling his life and legacy to the people and this grand purpose brings us together today.
“Our hearts therefore, overflow with gratitude to Mr Anthony Goldman and Senator Abu Ibrahim for instigating a much needed intellectual endeavor. They have kick started our engagement with President Buhari’s legacy as he prepares to gracefully exit the stage after a truly meritorious service to our nation,” he said.
Also speaking, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator Abdullahi Adamu thanked Nigerians for voting President Buhari twice, affording him the opportunity to govern the country for eight years.
He announced a donation of N20 million on behalf of the ruling party.
