2019 polls: I’m committed to peace, unity – Buhari

President Mohammadu Buhari said on Thursday that he is committed to peace and unity as the nation prepares for general elections in February 2019.

The President said this at the Presidential Villain Abuja when he unveiled the Buhari Unity Band as part of activities to commence his campaign.

“No nation can succeed without unity. Our nation has gone through turbulent times but by the grace of God we always emerge stronger,” he said.

The President also expressed concern over the prevailing threats in the country ahead of the elections next year.

He said the present administration was doing all it takes to promote togetherness and cement cordial relationship among Nigerians.

In his remarks, National Coordinator of GOGAN, Mr. Felix Idiga, said the Buhari Unity Band is to shut down evil plans of the opposition and every dissenting voice.

“It is a symbol with a loud declaration by Nigerians; a slogan which says, no to united looters, yes to a united Nigeria,” he said.

He said ‘senseless looting’ of national treasury unites desperate politicians regardless of their different ethnic and religious groups “but when they are picked to face the wrath of the law, they cry marginalisation and begin to fan the flames of disunity and unrest in the country.”

He said BUB’s launch of the wrist band was to give all Nigerians who support the President and country’s unity something to show for their solidarity

“Our ultimate goal is to make all Nigerians peace ambassadors of our country by uniting them with the national outlook for excellence in visual identification symbol,” he said.
