Terrorism: Nigerian govt inaugurates National Sanctions Committee

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Friday inaugurated National Sanctions Committee to trace and freeze financial flows of terrorist funds.

The committee is chaired by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami.

Members of the committee are National Security Adviser, Mr Babagana Mongunu; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyema; Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, and the Director General of State Security Service (SSS), Mr. Lawal Daura.

Other members of the committee are the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris; Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele; Director General of National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rufai Abubakar and the Director General of Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit.

Speaking at the inauguration of committee at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Osinbajo said the federal government is committed to eliminating terrorism in the country.

In his remarks, chairman of the committee, Abubakar Malami, assured that the committee would deliver on its mandate.
