Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state has welcomed 5000 politicians who officially decamped from the All Progressives Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday.

A former House of Assembly candidate of the APC for Sapele Constituency, Felix Anirah, was among the decampees.

Their defection is coming two days to the local government election holding on Saturday across the state.

Speaking at the rally, Okowa said with the defection of Anirah and others, the APC won’t find space to breathe in Saturday’s poll.

Okowa, accompanied by the state PDP chairman, Olorogun Kingsley Esiso, called on all former members of the party who defected to the ruling APC at the national level to ‘return home’.

“We cannot lose sight of the fact that it is the political party that brought us to where we are today; so, we will continue to welcome our members back to the umbrella party.

“We will continue to work for our people; you should ensure that you go out on Saturday to vote,” the governor said.

On his reasons for quitting the APC, Anirah said he was fed up with President Muhammadu Buhari’s style of governance and abysmal performance records.

“Before I came to this special rally for me to formally dump the APC, APC national chairman of the APC called me, begging that I shouldn’t leave the party; but I told him that since APC is no longer convenient for me and my people, we are moving back to our party, the PDP.

“We will test our strength on Saturday during the local government council election.

“The APC will not get any councillor’s seat, but, the victory will be repeated in the general elections so that all will know that PDP is fully in control of Delta State.”
