The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday approved N10.4 billion for the reconstruction of Pankshin-Balank-Yalen-Salak-Gindiri road in Plateau state and N10.2 billion for Sharre-Patigi road in Kwara state.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, after the council meeting at the State House in Abuja.

The minister also told journalists that the council also approved a memorandum in respect of the inherited liabilities from the old Ministry of Power where a judgment of N119 billion was signed against the federal government.

Also speaking, Minister of Science and Technology, Mr, Ogbonaya Onu, said the council has approved a new policy guideline for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) on the planning and execution of projects, programmes and contracts that have science, engineering and technology components.

He said the new policy intends to domesticate firms with science, engineering and technology components in 10 years although the science sector would continue to rely on foreign experts to train home based Nigerians to take over.

He said henceforth those who want to practise in the engineering, science and technology, medicine, accountancy and quantity survey, among others, must be certified by appropriate professional bodies in Nigeria.

He said the measure was important in building the nation’s local capacity, adding that there were so many areas that the new policy has covered.
