Two weeks after screening, Osinbajo fails to swear-in new ministers
May 17 16:07 2017

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has for the second consecutive week failed to inaugurate  the two ministers who were recently confirmed by the Senate.

The Senate had on May 3 confirmed the  new ministers, Stephen Ocheni (Kogi) and Suleiman Hassan (Gombe) who were appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari to replace late James of Ocholi and Amina Mohammed respectively.

Ocholi, who was Minister of State for Labour and Employment, had died in a car crash along Kaduna-Abuja expressway while Mohammed, who was Minister of Environment was appointed Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations.

The Acting  President however failed to inaugurate and give the new ministers portfolios  before the commencement of the  Federal Executive Council on Wednesday.

While it is the norm to inaugurate new ministers at the beginning of a Council meeting, the inauguration of Ocheni and Hassan has not been mentioned as part of the agenda in the last two Council meetings chaired by Osinbajo.

No official explanation has been given for Osinbajo’s failure to inaugurate the ministers.
