The Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, on Friday appeared before an investigative panel chaired by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo at the State House, Abuja.

The panel was set up by President Muhammadu Buhari to investigate allegations bordering on abuse of office and contract scam made against the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, in the Presidential Iniatiative for Northeast (PINE).

The panel is also investigating the 13 billion naira found by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) which the suspended boss of the National Intelligence Agency ((NIA), Ayo Oke, has laid claim to.

The panel was mandated to unravel how the NIA came in possession of the funds, how and by whose or which authority the funds were made available to the NIA, and whether or not there has been a breach of the law or security procedure in obtaining custody and use of the funds.

The committee has the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami; and the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, as members.

Oke and Lawal who were suspended by the President while setting up the probe panel, took turns to appear before it on Monday and Tuesday respectively.

Emefiele’s appearance before the committee was in connection with Oke’s probe.

Details of his submission to the committee were not clear as of the time of filing this report.

The panel, which was set up penultimate Wednesday, has 14 days to submit its report.
