A despicable thug who sliced off his ex-wife’s ear in front of her children so ‘no man would look at her again’ has had his prison sentence increased.

Top judges ruled the original jail terms imposed on Patrick Reilly and his accomplice sister Deborah Corcoran were “unduly lenient”.

Reilly, 37, cut off a chunk of the victim’s right ear with a flick knife as her three children watched on in horror.

The Birmingham Mail reports Reilly had earlier punched her in the face and chest after bursting into her home in Walsall, West Midlands.

The victim thought her ear had been scratched until one of her children told her she was bleeding and a large part of her ear was on the floor.

One of the children put it on ice after the attackers left last April, but it could not be reattached.

Reilly was jailed for nine years and Corcoran, 45, for six at Wolverhampton Crown Court last December.

They had stood trial for wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

The court heard Reilly brandished the knife as he screamed at the victim: “No other man will ever look at you again.”

Reilly’s niece, 26-year-old Kelly Marie Corcoran, also received a five-year sentence for wounding with intent.

Following a referral by the Solicitor General Robert Buckland QC MP, the Court of Appeal ruled that Reilly and Deborah Corcoran’s original sentences were unduly lenient.

Their sentences were increased to 14 and eight years respectively.

Following the hearing, Mr Buckland said: “This was a particularly violent and premeditated attack resulting in the victim receiving life changing injuries which were inflicted in her own home, and witnessed by her three young children.

“I am pleased to see the Court of Appeal agreed the original sentences for the two main attackers did not adequately reflect the gravity of this offence and increased the custodial sentence.”
