Appeal Court declares Sheriff PDP chairman

The leadership crises rocking the Peoples Democratic Party took a new turn on Friday when an Appeal Court sitting in Port Harcourt declared Senator Ali Modu Sheriff the authentic Chairman of the party.

The ruling which came as a split decision, set aside the judgement delivered by Justice Mohammed Liman of the Federal High Court in Rivers State.

The High Court decision had recognized former Kaduna State governor, Ahmed Makarfi, as the leader of the party.

Friday’s split decision saw two of three judges rule in favour of Sheriff while the other judge delivered judgement against the former Borno State governor.

Two former two-term governors, Sheriff and Makarfi, presently lead separate factions of the PDP.
