Algeria forward, Riyad Mahrez,  was on Thursday night in Abuja crowned African Footballer of the Year for 2016.

Mahrez was a key player for Leicester City as the Foxes won the English Premier League in 2016.

He beat Aubameyang of Gabon/Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool/Senegal midfielder, Sadio Mane, to the award.

The Confederation of African Football title made it a hat-trick of wins for the 25-year-old, who had already been named PFA players’ player of the year and BBC African player of the year.

The CAF award ceremony started 25 years ago.
