In search of money to send to girlfriend, houseboy kills boss in Lagos

The houseboy who stabbed his boss to death in Lagos on Tuesday did that in desperation to get money to send to his girlfriend in Cameroun.

Joel Ludgo, 22, had requested his employer, Miss Temidayo Adeleke, 32, for a salary advance of 15000 naira out 27000 naira monthly pay for him to send to his girlfriend.

According to police authorities in Lagos, Adeleke’s inability to raise the money led to an altercation between the two of them.

While Adeleke said she had no naira notes on her, Ludgo  reportedly stormed out of her boss’ room only to return with a knife and stab her to death.

The victim had been set to get married early next year.

The police spokesperson  in Lagos, Dolapo Badmos, on Saturday said that the suspect was still making useful confessional statements to detectives at the state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba.

She added that Ludguo would be charged with murder among other charges, upon the completion of investigation.

Further investigations revealed that the suspect, who was employed few weeks ago, had been on hard drugs.

Badmos also used the oppportunity to warn residents against employing domestic workers without proper background checks.

“The victim was found lying on the floor of her living room in a pool of blood. A kitchen knife was found stuck into the left side of her chest. She was rushed to St. Nicholas Hospital on Lagos Island, where a doctor on duty confirmed her dead.

“Some drug substance was found on the suspect and he has made confessional statements. He said he wanted to send money to his girlfriend in Cameroon and that was how an argument ensued between him and the boss.

“Investigation is still ongoing and he will be duly prosecuted. Meanwhile, people should be wary of employing domestic servants on the road. Background checks need to be carried out on them,” she said.
