We’ll comply with Appeal Court judgement on Jegede – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Eyitayo Jegede as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the gubernatorial election scheduled for Saturday.

The commission said  the decision was in compliance with judgment of the Court of Appeal, which ordered it to remove the name of Jimoh Ibrahim as the PDP candidate.

The Secretary to the Commission, Mrs. Agusta Okagwu, made this known in a statement on Wednesday.

“In compliance with the judgment delivered today, Wednesday, November 23, 2016, by the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, the Independent National Electoral Commission hereby declares that Mr. Eyltatyo legede (SAN) is now the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party  for the Ondo State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, November 26, 2016.

“lt will he recalled that in compliance with the order given by the Federal High Court, Abuja Division, on Friday,  October 14,  2016 (re-affirmed on October 27,  2016), the commission named Mr. Jimoh lbrahim as the PDP candidate for the governorship election.

“However, with today‘s judgment by the Court of Appeal, the commission, hereby, recognises  Mr. Jegede as the candidate of the PDP for the said election,” the statement read in part.
