Two female senators on Tuesday exchanged words on the propriety of President Muhammadu Buhari’s statement that his wife, Aisha Buhari, belonged to his kitchen and other room.

The President had made the controversial comment at the weekend while on a visit to Germany in response to his wife’s public criticism of his leadership style and choice of appointees.

Debating the issue of the recently released Chibok girls and the way forward, Senator Abiodun Olujimi ( PDP Ekiti South) criticised the President and accused him of relegating Nigerian women  to the kitchen.

“Our women should not be in the kitchen, they should be in the Senate too,” she said.

Senator Binta Masi Garba, representing Adamawa North on the platform of APC. however disagreed with her, saying women were essentially meant to be in the kitchen even though they could still do other things.

“I am proud to be in the kitchen and also in the Senate. I am first a woman before a senator and I am proud to be in the Senate too as a woman.”
