The House of Representatives has commenced a probe on the circumstances surrounding the arrest and detention of some judges by men of the Department of State Services.

The House on Tuesday named a committee to investigate the Friday night raid which saw the arrest some senior judges.

The motion was tabled during plenary on Tuesday by a lawmaker from Rivers State, Chinda Ogundu.

While the  House declined to summon the DSS boss, Lawal Daura, it sought to know where the secret police derived the power to arrest  judges from.

A lawmaker, Mojeed Alabi, had urged the House to respect the principles of separation of powers and stay away from the matter.

The House however approved the motion to investigate the development.
