The Independent National Electoral Commission will conduct the Edo state gubernatorial election on Saturday, September 10, as scheduled.

This is in defiance of security warnings issued by both the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Police Force on Wednesday.

The seurity agencies had advised INEC to consider shifting the election to enable them use the weekend to clear suspected terrorists who plan to attack the state during the sallah holiday.

While the Peoples Democratic Party and civil society groups had kicked against shifting the poll, INEC said on Wednesday that it will consult widely with stakeholders before taking a decision.

Mutiple sources in the electoral body have now informed Thinkers Newspaper authoritatively that the election will hold on Saturday.

According to the sources, the electoral body will work with the security agencies to find alternative solutions to any likely security breach, other than shifting the elections.

The Saturday election will witness a straight battle between the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Godwin Obaseki, and the PDP, Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

Incumbent governor, Adams Oshiomole, is expected to quit office when his second tenure of four years expires in a matter of weeks.
