Former Deputy Governor of Benue state, Steven Lawani has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

He defected alongside two former ministers, Prof. Jerry Agada and Sam Ode; former federal permanent secretary, Mike Onoja; Senator Godwin Okpe and thousands of Peoples Democratic Party faithful in Benue-South Senatorial District.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had rescheduled the rerun in the election between Senator David Mark of the PDP and Daniel Onjeh of APC for February 20.

The National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, who received the defectors on Saturday in Oturkpo Local Government Area of the state, said the district could not afford to be in opposition.

Odigie-Oyegun, also sought the support of Benue people for the APC-led administration of President Mohammadu Buhari and Governor Samuel Ortom, in diversifying the economy through agricultural innovations.
